Many of us suffer from enthusiasm. We start a project with great gusto and go about it in a really intense way but to be effective you must be consistent. Or maybe we have a mad tidying up session only to discover a week later that we are back to square one and drowning in stuff or paperwork. Consistency is the answer.
The simple example is that if you want to get fit then 10 minutes exercise a day for 60 days will have a much greater effect than 10 hours in one day even though the amount of time is actually the same. Equally this applies to things such as email organisation. If you ensure you have a system to enable you to end up with a zero inbox at the end of each day this will be far more effective than emptying your inbox once a month. For those of you who are fans of the 5S system the most difficult part is the Sustain “S” in other words the consistent bit.
As with most things it is easier said than done to be consistent as life gets in the way and unless you are very disciplined then “something more important” comes along.
Effective people organise themselves to enable the maximum amount of consistency. Many of these blogs will help you achieve this but you must be disciplined.
A little and often always beats a mad rush.
