Freelancers have a real problem – how to increase freelance income.
The problem with most freelancers (myself included) is that the “product” sold is usually time and the problem with time is that no matter how much the demand, the supply is fixed.
The great Seth Godin has the answer. He says the way freelancers grow is by getting better clients and hence being able to charge more. In order to do that we must tell a story that resonates with what better clients want to buy.
Here’s the question. Do you really know what story will resonate with the better clients? Have you spent time studying their true needs and understanding why they are prepared to pay more?
Difficult though it is, sometimes we have to turn away work or even lose existing clients to work out how to show prospective better clients how we can help them become more effective and achieve their objectives. Turning away work is never easy.
Only by showing the better clients that you can add value and effectiveness to their business will you increase freelance income.
