We all know the problem with time management is that the amount of time we have available in any one day, week or year is fixed. We also know that very few, if any people on their death bed say “I wish I had made more productive or efficient use of my life” but a very high proportion regret the fact that they did not do something or experience something even though they knew that that was what they wanted to do for many years. When it’s too late, it’s too late. Here are five ways to effective time management.
- Set the objective.
- Prioritise the objective each day using the The Ivy Lee Method – How To Have An Effective Day
- Use time blocking techniques to ensure you have the time available to work on your priority
- Say NO to those things that will divert you from the objective (this is the hardest one as sometimes things are outside your control).
- Be consistent in your approach.
The above is really difficult. Don’t expect to be able to do everything immediately. Set the objective and then move toward effective time management. If you want help becoming an effective time manager, we run courses and provide coaching services.
Go for it.
