The Stoics really understand control. You may have a desire to control others, but in reality you can’t, you can only control yourself. The trick therefore is to effectively control yourself, not others. Bad managers and even worse, bad “leaders” believe the solution to dealing with people is to try and control them. It’s another description of micromanaging, and one of the things we know is that micromanaging just doesn’t work. What does work is effectively controlling yourself, but how?
Using the Stoic philosophy of the only person you can control is yourself you can save huge amounts of time and probably money by concentrating with a laser like focus on you and not on others. If you do that, and do it well this will result in you being an effective leader as this will inspire others to follow.
