Effective Leaders Are Completely Enrolled In The Objective

To be effective leaders must be enrolled in their objective. We can identify an effective leader in that in every meeting, every telephone call and most especially every email they will be demanding to know how it moves them and the organisation toward the ultimate objective or goal.

If they can’t see that then they should have the same attitude as if they had checked their bank at the end of the month and discovered their salary was not there. If that happened they would immediately ask “where is it,” “why is it not there,” “put it there immediately,” “I’m not moving on until this is sorted.”

Next time you attend a meeting or get a communication ask yourself this question first. Where is the thing that will move us toward our objective? If it’s not there thenĀ  an effective leader will move it to the bottom of the pile and get on with those things that move everything forward.

An effective leader will not do anything before asking “if I do this, or ask someone to do something, if I callĀ  this meeting or send this email is it totally clear how it helps us to move toward our objective?” If yes do it, if no, don’t.

That’s why effective leaders are completely enrolled in the objective.

All this assumes of course that the ultimate objective has been communicated to everyone. Otherwise how do they decide if something is important or not?

Does everyone in your organisation know the objective? If not, they can’t they be enrolled and they can’t be effective.
